NC Medical Marijuana Bill Not for the People

This bill allows only 10 suppliers in the state to operate a business that would grow, cultivate, produce, or sell cannabis or cannabis-infused products. Each supplier can operate no more than 4 medical cannabis centers. These 10 suppliers would pay a nonrefundable license fee in the amount of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) plus five thousand dollars ($5,000) for each production facility or medical cannabis center the applicant proposes to operate under the license. For suppliers seeking license renewal, a nonrefundable renewal fee in an amount not less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000) plus one thousand dollars ($1,000) for each production facility or medical cannabis center the supplier operates under the license as specified in rules adopted by the Commission

Not only does this leave out small businesses but it allows corporations to monopolize the industry. This means higher prices for us all. We are all currently feeling the impact of monopolies at the gas pump and in the healthcare industry.

Yes, we want marijuana to be legal for all and especially for those with health conditions. But we also want to allow small businesses to have an opportunity in the industry. This keeps prices low and gives local families financial stability. Having large corporations control the cannabis industry leaves workers fighting for $15 and benefits , a far cry from financial stability. Let's create an equitable cannabis industry. One that is for the people, by the people!
